First Health & Wellness Media Days
The Premiere was a Great Success
At the world’s largest and leading travel trade show, ITB 2011 in Berlin, the launch of the first ever ‘Health & Wellness Media Days’ event proved to be a great success. From March 9th-10th 2011, many international partners from the fields of health and wellness travel presented their specialties, offers and packages. Thanks to the good organization and moderation by Fit Reisen and the leading tourist press agency in Germany, C&C, the first ‘Health & Wellness Media Days’ event proved to be a great success at the ITB 2011 in Berlin.
The trend towards health and wellness travel continues to be unbroken, and the outlook for this is optimistic. Therefore Fit Reisen and C&C enabled attractive partners within the wellness industry to take an active part during the ‘Health & Wellness Media Days’. In attendance for this event, 30 international top hotels and resorts, the European Spa Association, and the tourism ministries of the destinations Cyprus, Hungary, Tunisia, Korea, and the Tourist Board Thuringia were all on hand to answer questions from roughly 200 enthusiastic media reporters.
The 2-day media event created a platform to exchange ideas and share knowledge at first hand between industry members and built an authentic image of the sector. New developments, projects as well as new exhibitors and tenders were presented.
"We are delighted to be here at this premiere and to be allowed to attend the first ‘Health & Wellness Media Days' with its programs and its internationality that clearly demonstrate the large and complex range of spa, health and wellness travel", Dr. Sigrun Lang, President of the European Spas Association, said.
On Wednesday, March 9th, 2011, the event started with an opening press conference. Discussions included the current perspectives and viewpoints concerning health tourism.
Guest speaker Prof. Karl Born, Professor of Tourism Management / Tourism Industry at the University of Applied Sciences Harz and Dr. Sigrun Lang gave the initial lectures. Prof. Karl Born brought forth the point: "Quality is not divisible." The supply chain must consistently meet high standards of quality in order to survive in the health and wellness market, – from the hotel bed to the beauty treatment. The environment must be in line with the wellness program as well. Furthermore, Dr. Behi Bouakez, chief physician of the Thalasso Center Bio Azur in Hammamet (Tunisia) and Dr. Alex Witasek, medical director of the artepuri ® med center in Artepuri hotel MeerSinn on Ruegen participated in the discussions.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the partners presented a half-hour long topic-related press conference in front of the impressive C&C Media Lounge. The press conferences and presentations were organized into categories such as Ayurveda, Thalasso, Health, & Spa. Through the many presentations, interviews, and discussions, high standards of quality and customer satisfaction were stated by industry members throughout the ‘Health & Wellness Media Days’, receiving positive and encouraging responses from the audience.
One of the highlights was the presentation around the topic of health & wellness in Thuringia, which was prepared by the Thuringia tourist board together with the famous Olympic athlete, Kati Wilhelm, a biathlon champion. Elaborated information brochures were handed out describing the variety of health & well-being offers.
At the final press conference, on March 10th, the first ‘FIT Health & Wellness Awards 2011’ were conferred to notable partners.
"We wanted to offer journalists a panel of experts who have the knowledge and the insights regarding future market growth for our industry. The overwhelming response received, shows us that there is a great demand here," expresses Gunther Träger, the owner and CEO of C&C.
‘The first Health & Wellness Media Days at the ITB 2011 were a great success’, Claudia Wagner confirmed, managing director of Fit Reisen. ‘We wanted to offer our partners a platform to present themselves, share ideas, and respond to the needs of the market. This certainly was well accomplished’, she states.
